<![CDATA[At approximately 12:30am Sunday morning, staffing at the station reported a power failure. Within moments, Aston PD called out at a MVA on Dutton Mill Rd, a block from Station 63. PD reported one subject trapped and another hanging from the car. The car had lost control and completely sheared off a utility pole before coming to rest in the front lawn in the 2800 Block of Dutton Mill Rd. The pole damage resulted in a power surge and failure in the area. Rescue 63 (FF G. Plotts) with a staffing of 6, arrived to confirm one trapped with wires down. Deputy 63 (Dawson) arrived and assumed the Dutton Mill Command as the crews went to work removing both drivers side doors and "B" post for patient access. The driver was extricated in 15 minutes along with the passenger who were transported to the local Trauma Center. As this was on going, a second call for wires at Dutton Mill and Pennell and an automatic fire alarm were being received. Deputy 63 requested QT52 handle the AFA at Sun Valley High School, while 72 handled the wires call.
Initial crews entering the school found the alarm sounding and were met by a strong odor of smoke in several areas of the school. Command requested the box assignment to be filled out. This brought the balance of Co. 52, 72, TW61, R45 & NCC RIT 13 to the scene as the remaining units from 63 cleared the wreck and made the response. Several crews split up to search for the source of the smoke, finding a damaged air handling unit on the roof. During this event, yet another home owner a block from the school on Pierce Ave reported the odor of something burning, bringing Chief 63 (M. Evans) an additional street assignment to handle that emergency. SQ52 investigated a strong electrical odor inside the residence and PECO was notified. Three and a half hours and 5 emergencies later, crews were able to get back to the station and get some much needed rest. ...]]>
