MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN ANNUAL CAREER DAY

Friday, March 26, 2010  Today members of the Fire Prevention/Recruitment and Retention committee's traveled to St Joe's School for their annual career day. The members talked to the kids about what it is like to be a fire fighter and what it takes to be a fire fighter. They went over the PPE and some tools that we use. A lot of questions were answered about the fire service and we showed the kids two videos about our fire company. We would like to let everyone know that we are always looking for new members to join our ranks and serve the community you can download an application off of our web site or you can stop by the station any Wednesday night at 7 pm and pick one up.  We would like to thank St Joe's school for having us back again this year and we look forward to next year.

 

 

 

 

BOX ALARM AND BRUSH FIRE

Sunday, March 21, 2010  Just after 1pm the street assignment was dispatched to the 1200blk of Nate Ellis Drive for the house fire, RIT 39 arrived first with normal conditions. Engine 47 and (reserve)Engine 63 arrived next, after the crews investigated they found an outlet that was on fire on the outside of the structure with minor extension. The crews from 63 were available in 30min. As the crews were finishing up cleaning up from last nights excellent turn out for the St. Patties Day party, the brush assignment was dispatched to Elm Ave. Engine 72 handled the small suspicious fire and recalled Engine 63.
 

 

 

 

 

ST PATTY'S BEEF AND BEVERAGE

Saturday, March 20, 2010  The members of the Ways and Means Committee would like to thank all of the members, residents, fire service brethren and sisters and the public in general for coming out and supporting the 1st Annual Green Ridge St. Patty’s Day beef and Beverage. The event was a huge success and great time by all. We would like to especially thank the following people and businesses for their added support to making this event happen:

4 FOR THE DAY INCLUDING A FIRST DUE GARAGE

Wednesday, March 17, 2010  St. Patrick's Day brought 4 calls to the station. The first was a RIT assist to the Toby Farms Elementary School in the late morning. The fire was quickly scaled down to 45 and 52. A little while later, the street assignment was dispatched to the area of Florence and Scarlet Aves. for the building fire. A/C Schmid (63-9C) arrived with medium smoke showing from a detached garage.  Further investigation revealed a resident burning off brush inside the garage in a wood burning stove. The assignment was held to Engine 63. Also on the ticket were Cos. 72, 47, 45, 65 and NCC RIT 13.  About an hour later, the township companies went to #2 New Rd. for the alarm system activation. As Truck 63 arrived, 72-9B reported the alarm tripped and we returned.  To close out the day, the township companies were again sent for an alarm system on Jennifer Lane. Chief Herre (63-9) arrived and reported a tripped alarm and returned the assignment per 72 command.

 

 

 

 

OPERATION 6 ABC SAVE-A-LIFE

Tuesday, March 16, 2010  Today members of the fire prevention committee traveled north to the Philadelphia Fire Academy to take part in the 18th annual 6 ABC Operation Save-A-Life smoke detector give away. The members picked up 84 smoke detectors and stayed for the press conference and luncheon. They listened to the Philadelphia Fire Commissioner and other members of the Philadelphia Fire Department as well as people from 6 ABC and the other sponsors of the program about the importance of fire prevention and fire safety. We would like to thank 6 ABC for the opportunity to be a part of this program and its constant support of the fire service and to the safety of people all over the Delaware Valley. We would also like to let the residents of Aston Township know that if you need a smoke detector please either stop buy the fire house on any Wednesday night after 7pm or give us a call at 610.494.6771 and we would be happy to give you a smoke detector or come buy and install the smoke detector free of charge. We would also like to say that Fire Safety and Fire Prevention is a year round event not just a week in October. So please check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors batteries and make sure they are both in good working condition, who knows it may just save your life. RESCUE Co. HEADS TO HOOK: 9th AND MARKET ST

Tuesday, March 16, 2010  Just before 10pm the house fire assignment was struck for the area of 9th and Market streets in Marcus Hook. 68-9B arrived first and had a 3 story twin with fire showing from division 1 on side "C". Rescue Co. 63 was special called to assist for the RIT team. Rescue 63(Capt. Harris) set up on side "A". Just as the crews finished throwing ladders, 68-9B ordered the crew to switch modes and open the roof and assist inside opening up above the fire floor. The crews operated for just over 2 hours.

TREE INTO 63-13's HOUSE

Saturday, March 13, 2010  Around 530pm, Lt. Robertson (63-13) heard a loud crash while inside his house. He investigated and found a tree had fallen into his home.  He requested the fire company for a service call to assist in removing the tree from the roof of the house. Truck and Chief 63 responded and were quickly able to remove the tree from the house with a chainsaw.  Unfortunately, the Robertson family pool was a total loss.  The house only suffered minor damage to the gutter and some flashing.

 

 

 

 

2ND ALARM TO UPPER CHICHESTER

Monday, March 8, 2010  Just before 1900 hrs the 2nd alarm street assignment was struck for the 2500 block of Larkin Rd in Upper Chichester on the working house fire. Truck, Rescue and U63 responded on the assignment. Upper Chi units were on scene with a 2 story SFD with heavy fire showing from side “C” Charlie of the building. Crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and no visible fire on the interior sectors and Command reported heavy fire conditions visible on the exterior and evacuated the building to go defensive. Once the 2nd Alarm Companies arrived and a brief defensive attack with Tower 61 and multiple hand lines crews went back in to open up and extinguish the fire. Crews worked for several hours before being released. 63 Crews operated under the Command of Chief B. Herre. Other units on scene were:

1st Alarm- 40, 55, 61, RIT 45, M667
2nd Alarm- 63, 66, 71, 72, NCC RIT 13 A687
Ogden Chief 55-9 C. Small had the Larkin Rd Command.  Thank you L65 and E20 for covering our local.
 

 

 

 

BACK TO BACK COVERS

Today the Engine was requested to cover NCC 23 Minquas while their members attended the LODD funeral of Wilmington, DE Fire Inspector. The engine covered until the afternoon with no runs logged. Once the engine returned to our station we covered the rest of the night until midnight for Brookhaven Fire Company as they attended their annual awards banquet.

 

 

 

 

NOZZLE DEMO

Wednesday, March 3, 2010  Tonight for drill a few members and officers got a chance to look at some of the products made from Elkhart first hand as we are winding down our process of purchasing new nozzles for E63. Members got to try a few of the nozzles out and got a basic overview of the construction and dynamics of Elkhart nozzles. A special thank you to Ron from Elkhart and Dave from Smiley Fire Equipment for coming down and setting everything up.

 

 

 

 

NEW ENGINE PARTY

Saturday, February 27, 2010  This afternoon and late into the early morning the members and their family and friends were at the station for a party for the new Engine 63 a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT Pumper. This was a chance for the members and the families to see what two year process of meeting and writing the specifications was all for. The Committee also got to show off the new engine to some of our mutual aide companies who stopped over to see the engine and have some food and drinks. The Engine Committee also met with J-Tech and Halo to finalize the compartment layouts and placement of the electric equipment needing to be installed. A special thank you to the following local businesses who donated to help us celebrate our new engine: Scarrino’s Pizza, Cocco’s Pizza, Peppino’s Pizza, Barnaby’s of Aston, Goodale Beverage and Dexter’s on the Five. A big thank you also goes to East Lansdowne and Reliance H & L for covering Aston Twp while we celebrated.
