Saturday, June 5, 2010  On June 5th, five Green Ridge firemen along with many others traveled to Claymont Fire Co., who hosted "Traditions Training" as they presented another high intensity, real world experience based forcible entry class. This class consisted of lectures about going through the lock, followed by rigorous hands on evolutions. The forcible entry class taught our members the basic functions of forcing doors, removing bars and cutting roll down gates as well as many street proven tactics to overcome a variety of obstacles routinely experienced by the truck company. MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND

The holiday weekend started off with the Volunteers assisting Garden City (65) and South Media (51) and Media RIT 23 on a house fire in the 300 block of Saybrook Lane. Garden City Command arrived on scene with smoke showing and upgraded to a working fire bringing additional units from Brookhaven, Parkside, Swarthmore and us due to the hot weather conditions. Truck 63 arrived moments later an assisted with checking for extension and overhaul. Units cleared a short time later. Memorial Day started off with a salute to the men and women who fight for our freedom and to those who have come before us and paid the ultimate sacrifice throughout history. The Company participated in two local Memorial Day parades in Aston, one in our local the other in Aston Beechwood’s local. There was a good showing of patriotism from the residents and support for the Fire Companies and Police Dept. along with all those who participated in the parades and services. The Company remained busy into the evening answering several EMS calls, an accident involving a motorcycle, CO Alarm and a cover up to Chester City Sta. 82 while they battled a two alarm blaze. Again thank you to all the members and their families for your support over the holiday weekend and to the residents of Aston for making it an enjoyable holiday.

QRS KEEPS BUSY AS THE TEMPS GO UP

Wednesday, May 26, 2010  The dispatch for RIT 63 came in a little after midnight for a reported house fire in Chester Heights Boro. Also on the response were Cos. 71, 59 and 72. Rescue and Utility 63 made the response but were returned enroute by 71-9 after it was determined there was no fire.

QRS 63 had a brief spurt of being busy, running 3 back to back calls just as the schools began to let out. The first response was a 2nd emergency along with 72-7A and M100C at the Giant Supermarket. The QRS provided an EMT for 72-7A and transported to CCMC. While 7A was still transporting, the QRS, staffed with 2 more EMTs was headed over to Cory Lane for another medical run. Medic 72-7 responded from Crozer as well. Medic 72 requested we have one of our EMTs ride in to the hospital to help with patient care.  While crews were tied up on Cory Lane, 72-7A and QRS 63's first EMT responded to another call in Aston at Hennessey's Tavern. This patient refused treatment.

As crews were doing weekly apparatus checks before drill, the Township companies were dispatched to Applebee's for the fire alarm. Full Co. 63 was on location in 2 minutes and determined the alarm was tripped by burnt fajitas. Chief Herre (63-9) returned the assignment. This week's drill, crews continued to focus on Engine Co. Operations working with the new engine. Crews deployed handlines and the blitz-fire monitor. The apparatus then headed over for a pit stop at Rita's Water Ice to cool down after the hot day!!!

WAWA RUN BUT THIS TIME NOT FOR FOOD

Monday, May 24, 2010

The Morning started off with a fire alarm in ChesterTownship at 3:30am, the alarm was tripped and the assignment was recalled by 47 Command. Just after 7am the commercial box alarm was struck for the Wawa at the 5000 block of Pennell Rd. Engine 63(D/C Evans) arrived and had normal conditions from the outside. The Engine setup in case we had to stretched inside, interior (A/C Dawson) found an intercom box on fire that fell off the wall and caught the wall and a nearby chair on fire. Truck 63 set up on the "A" Alpha side of the structure and assisted the Engine Co with opening the wall and checking for extension. Once the fire was placed under control "Pennell Rd Command" held the assignment to Engine and Truck 63. The crews awaited the Code Enforcer and Health Department for just over an hour. D/C Evans had the "Pennell Rd Command".

Later in the evening the QRS was out on a second emergency in the local. Also during the last period of the Flyers game the Twp. Companies responded to an Odor Investigation in the Unit Block of Florence Ave. and a Building fire in the Unit Block of Scott Lane. Both calls were minor.
