FIREFIGHTERS VS COPS AGAINST AUTISM

Tuesday, May 24, 2011  On Tuesday evening, May 24th at 6:00 pm Aston’s Bravest competed against Aston’s Finest at Rita’s Water Ice in Aston. The cops vs. the fireman scooped it out to raise money for Herre’s Gang Autism Awareness Campaign. The Fire Trucks and Police Cars were on display and the crowds came out to “cool off” for a great cause and to watch the firefighters kick the cops butts in the competition. In all a great night was had by everyone who attended and helped make this event successful. A trophy was given to GRFC to keep until next year when the cops have a chance to redeem themselves.

 

 

 

 

2ND ALARM AUTO BODY SHOP FIRE

Tuesday, May 24, 2011  Just after 0400 hours the 2nd Alarm was struck to the unit block of Pastuszek Blvd. in Lower Chichester at Lepores Auto Body for the working fire. Units from Co. 39, 68, NCC 13 were operating at a 1 story auto body complex with fire through the roof and several vehicles on fire. T63 (Assist. Eng. Calvecchio), E63 (Deputy Evans) made the response with 8. T63 set-up on the Alpha Delta corner of the building for ladder pipe operation and E63 laid their own supply line in front of Holy Savior School and stretched a 2.5” with a blitz fire through a field and set-up on the Bravo-Charlie side for defensive operations.  Units operated in the defense mode for just over 2 hours before wrapping up and being released by Command. Deputy 39 Boyd had the Lepores Command, Chief 39 Durbano had Operations, Deputy 63 Evans had Sector Charlie, and Deputy 40 Fuller had manpower.

Rush hour Mva with injuries.

Monday, May 23, 2011  At just past 5pm, the street assignment went out for the motor vehicle accident with several injured. R63 (Deputy M. Evans), arrived to report a two car mva with several injuries. Crews split up, assessed injuries and began pt care. Chief 63 (Herre) arrived and added a 2nd and 3rd BLS and additional Medic. Crews packaged 3 for transport and secured all hazards. Units were avail in under an hour. Units of scene were R63, QRS 63, C-63, Traffic 63, R72, M72, A40, M100-7, M100-C, and ATPD

 

 

 

 

Game called due to outage?

Sunday, May 22, 2011  Sunday, just past noon, police units were dispatched to Jim Buggy Field for the motor vehicle accident with no injuries. Upon arrival, police reported a vehicle backed into an above ground electrical transformer, knocking out power to the concession stand and score board. E63 (FM T. Morgan) investigated and secured the scene while awaiting PECO electric. The game was apparently still played, but no one knew the score.

 

 

 

 

MVA @ DUTTON MILL & CONCORD

Thursday, May 19, 2011  At the height of the rush hour thursday afternoon, the rescue assignment went out for Dutton Mill Rd. and Concord Rd. for the motor vehicle accident with injuries. Rescue 63 (Durbano) and Amb 72 arrived to report a 2 car mva with injuries. Emt's on the crew attended to the wounded and secured hazards. The assignment was available within 30 minutes. 
 

 

 

 

 

MEMBERS RECEIVE ACCOMMENDATION

Wednesday, May 11, 2011  On Wednesday night the members of Green Ridge fire Company gathered at the commissioners meeting to honor some of their own.  Chris Schmid and his wife Natalie Schmid along with Sara Walters and Marc Calvecchio and members of Aston PD were given Commendations of Merit for live saving actions to an employee that occurred at the Giant Food Market on Concord Rd.  The awards were presented by Police Chief Daniel Ruggeri and to make the evening more special, Michael Hoffman, the employee that was aided was there to hand out the awards.

 

 

 

 

1ST DISTRICT MEMORIAL

Monday, May 9, 2011  Tonight the 1st District held its annual memorial services for those members in the 1st district that passed away last year. A set of turnout gear was set out at each station who had a member(s) who passed on. A procession throughout the 1st district passed by each district company starting at Sta 61 and ending there where a service was held followed by a dinner with the attending families.  

 

 

 

3RD ALARM AUTO BODY COMPLEX FIRE

Monday, May 9, 2011  Just into the lunch time hour the street assignment was struck for the area of W. 4th St. and Irving St. in Trainer Borough for the building fire. At the same time Chester Fire Dept. was heading to the 300 Block of Clayton St in the City for a reported car on fire inside an auto body shop. Units heading into the area had a large column in the sky and fire board started receiving numerous calls of a working auto body shop fire.  Units of the Trainer response were recalled as the called was reported to be in Chester City which later turned out to be false. E83 arrived on scene of a 1 story auto body complex with fire showing from side Alpha and through the roof and requested a 2nd alarm. This brought the City call backs, R52, E68, T63, RIT 45 and Canteen 47. Truck 63 (M. Evans) with 5 arrived on the 2nd alarm and found access to the Charlie side of the building and began master stream operations. The 3rd alarm was requested by C-11 for additional manpower due to insufficient water supply in the area. E63 (Durbano) established a water supply from SQ61 to TW61 which supplied T63 until another line was secured from E68. Numerous master streams were in service to gain the upper hand on the fire before crews were put inside to mop up. The crew from T63, E63 & TW61 threw ground ladders on the Charlie side and opened up the metal windows for the interior and roof crews. Units operated for several hours before the incident was turned over to Chief 68 as the building was indeed in Trainer Borough. Crews remained on scene to assist with overhaul and hitting the remaining hot spots and the investigation could begin. Units on scene included Chester FD, R52, E68, Co. 61, RIT 45, Canteen 47, E57, E12, a taskforce was established to run City wide while they were committed. T19 and E16 covered our local while we operated. The ATF, CID along with CPD, TPD and other agencies are investigating the fire.

 

 

 

 

ATTIC FIRE IN PARKSIDE

Monday, May 9, 2011  Around 0100 hours the street assignment was struck for the area of Beechwood Rd. and Edgemont Ave.  PD arrived on scene of a single family dwelling on Beechwood Rd. with fire showing on the 3rd floor.  R63 (C. Schmid) responded with a crew of 8 and E63 (Durbano) with 3 and assisted E45 crew with salvage and overhaul.  Units were on the scene for 2 hrs before returning.  Chief 45 Iacono had the Parkside Command.

 

 

 

 

ASTON LIONS 2010 FF OF YEAR

Thursday, May 5, 2011  The Aston Lions Club honored our 2010 FF of the year at their monthly meeting dinner. Firefighter of the Year Engineer Marc Calvecchio along with ABFC Firefighter of the Year Leah Jennings (Not pictured) and EMS Person of the Year Ann Marie Favinger were all praised for their 2010 accomplishments. Thank you to the Aston Lions club for dinner, your generous donation and continued support to the Aston Twp Emergency Services.

 

 

 

 

SPECIAL SERVICES GOES TO HOOK

Monday, May 2, 2011  In the evening hours the Truck was dispatched to the Unit block of Green St. in Marcus Hook for the building fire. MHPD was in the area with an odor of something burning and found smoke evident from a house and requested the FD. Truck 63 (C. Repine) arrived as the 1st due special services and threw ladders and was sent to do a primary search and help open up for the Engine Co. E68 & R39 had two lines stretched to find a small fire in a bedroom on the 2nd floor. Crews assisted with searches and checking for extension before ventilating the house. Crews operated under the Cmd of Chief 68 J. McClure.

 

 

 

 

1ST DUE HOUSE FIRE

Monday, May 2, 2011  At 0930 hours the street assignment was hit for the 100 Block of Bonsall Ave 1st due for the house on fire. E63 (M. Evans) arrived on scene with a 2 story SFD with smoke showing from the 1st & 2nd floors secured its own hydrant and went to work with a 1 ¾ handline. Crews were advised by ATPD & EMS of possible entrapment. The Engine crew split fire attack and doing a primary search. Interior Sector (B. Harris Jr.) had a fire in the basement and had the knock down. E72 crew performed a primary search and R39 assumed the 2nd due Eng Co. assignment. T63 handled the 1st due Truck assignment and performed a secondary search of the entire house. All searches came back negative and the fire was contained to the area of origin and placed under control within the 20 minute mark. Command scaled the assignment back to the Twp. Companies to assist with the investigation. Units assisting on scene were Co. 72, R39, L65, RIT 13 & 23, M72 & M100, Canteen 47, ATPD, AT Fire Marshals, CID and Fire Police. Deputy 63 M. Evans had to Bonsall Ave Command, Chief 63 B. Herre had Operations.
