BUSY DAY AS CREWS PREPARE FOR THE BLIZZARD

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 The station was kept busy today as crews preparred for the worst blizzard of our lives. The calls began at 11am with a RIT run to Clearwater Lane in Brookhaven. 52-9B arrived with smoke showing but quickly downgraded the call to a stove fire and returned the RIT. About an hour later, the Truck and Rescue were out the door on their way to Avondale Rd. in Nether Providence for smoke in a mid-rise apartment building. Truck 63 staged in the rear. 65 Command reported unattended cooking and held the assignment to 65/51 units. Two hours later, Rescue 63 responded to Concord and Gerald for the accident. One minur injury was found and no FD services being needed. 63 and 72 returned in about 10 minutes. Around dinner time, another accident was dispatched to Concord and Pennell. 72 command advised there was no need for the fire co. and fire units were returned. To close out the night, Truck 63 responded to the 2500 block of Concord Rd. in Chester Twp. for the fire alarm. It was tripped and the company was returned by 47-9.  Crews were also out doing some grocery shopping for the crews in station during the storm. A huge pot of chili was prepped for lunch on Wednesday to keep the crews well fed. NBC10's Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz reported that we will never see a storm like this ever again in our lifetimes!!!!
