APARTMENT BOX & 2ND ALARM RIT RESPONSE

Wednesday, December 28, 2011  Around 0300 hours the box assignment was dispatched to the Valleybrook Apartments F Building for a building fire. E63 (M. Evans) arrived with smoke showing from the roof area and laid out. T63 (B. Herre) arrived and setup on the Charlie side to check the roof. The source was quickly found to be a heater malfunction. The assignment was turned over to property maintenance & the units returned to service.

 

Shortly after returning to the station and getting back in the rack, the RIT was dispatched on the 2nd Alarm to Concordville for the working house fire. E71 arrived on the scene of a large 2.5 story SFD with fire showing and hit the 2nd Alarm. T63 (M. Evans) & R63 (B. Herre) with 12 arrived and took over RIT duties for SN23 who was placed in service as the 1st Due Truck Co. Units were pulled out for a defensive attack and T63 was utilized for master streams operations. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down crews went in to open up and extinguish the hot spots. 63 units operated for over 3 hours before returning to the local. Units operated under Chief 59 (T. CHRISTMAS MORNING CHIMNEY FIRE

Sunday, December 25, 2011  As the kids were waking up to open presents in many households the street assignment was put out to the 1300 block of Brookcroft Ln. in Bethel Twp for the house on fire. Chief 66 (Small) arrived on location with a 2.5 story SFD with smoke showing and assumed Command. Truck 63 (J. Casar) with 4 hit the street and was given orders upon arrival to go to the roof. Additional RIT's were added to the run from 23 & NCC 13. Crews had a chimeny fire with extension into the walls on all floors. Truck Crews opened up while the Eng. Co extinguished all visible fire. Crews operated for over an hour before the job was placed under control and returning to station.

     



 

TRASH TRUCK ROLL OVER

Tuesday, December 20, 2011  This afternoon, the Rescue assignment was put out for an accident involving a trash truck rolled over. A loaded trash truck turning onto Kingston Terrace from Dutton Mill Road, flipped onto an unoccupied parked car. 63-9B (Dawson) arrived and confirmed 3 injuries, assumed the Green Ridge Command an added 72-7A & M45 to the call. Rescues 63 arrived and started patient care and hazards control. Rescue 72 crews pulled a 1¾ hand line for precautionary reasons. EMS transported two patients and handled a refusal. Crews stood by as precautionary until the trash truck was up righted.

     



 

CLAYMONT 3RD ALARM WITH A MAYDAY

Monday, December 19, 2011  As crews were restoring the apparatus from the Chichester Avenue fire, the NCC box was alerted for Delco Companies to assist NCC Station 13 on a Working House Fire in Ballymeade Development. E13-2 arrived with fire showing from a three story end of the row townhome on all floors all sides an alerted all units of an exterior attack. A 2nd Alarm was struck for additional resources. Crews began to gear up when Claymont Command asked for the 2nd Alarm due to spreading fire conditions as crews were operating in exposures, conducting searches and opening the roof Command called for an Urgent then a Mayday when the original fire building collapsed. T63 (M. Evans) & E63 (R. Lynch) advised fireboard that we were taking in the run and to notify NCC Communications. A PAR was conducted and all crews were accounted for.  T63 & E63 arrived along with the 2nd Alarm Companies in staging and then were assigned to the Delta Exposure. Units operated for a few hours before bringing the fire under control. Units operated under the Command of Claymont Deputy Chief Eric Haley, Claymont Assistant Chief Carl Richards had Operations. Several Companies from New Castle County were on scene as well as the following Delaware County Companies: Lower Chichester, Reliance Boothwyn, Marcus Hook-Trainer, Upland, and Middletown.

UPPER CHI BOXES

Monday, December 19, 2011  The day started off early for the box alarm to Upper Chi for the fire in the high school. E40 arrived with an odor of smoke inside near the cafeteria with the school being evacuated. Crews from T61 & R39 assisted checking the interior. T63 arrived as 2nd due and set up on the Charlie side. Crews checked the roof units for a source. Eventually the source was found and the units were made available. Units on scene were 40, 55, 61, 39, 68, 63 & NCC RIT 13.

During the Lunchtime hours, the Upper Chichester Township Box assignment was dispatched to the 2100 Block of Chichester Avenue for the Building Fire. Truck 63 (M. Evans) with 6 made the response. E40 arrived on the scene with Smoke Showing from a Second Floor Apartment and went in service with a 1 3/4 line as the First Due Engine. E40’s crew found a bedroom fire and made a quick knock on it. T63 arrived as the 1st due Truck Co & laddered the building and did the primary and secondary searches. L68 crew threw ladders and assisted with opening up. The assignment was eventually scaled back to Co. 40. UC-9 (R. Powers) had the "Chichester Command" The Truck, Engine & Rescue were on scene.


     



 

BOX ALARM & STREET ASSIGNMENT

Sunday, December 18, 2011  Tonight around dinner time the box alarm was struck for the 500 Block of Conchester Highway for the fire in a Bowling Alley. Upper Chi Units along with Co. 63, 68 & NCC 25 were alerted. Crews arrived on scene with an odor of smoke inside an investigated. T63 arrived and set up on the Bravo side and checked the roof units. The source was found and the assignment was scaled back to the UCFD.

Later in the evening the street assignment was put out to the 400 block of Highgrove Ln. for the house fire reported to be a chimney. T63 (Harris Jr.) hit the street with 6. E71 returning from another run arrived 1st due and made the stretch. T63 arrived   with a 2.5 story SFD with fire showing from the chimney and smoke conditions on the 1st & 2nd Floors and assumed the Aston Twp Command until the arrival of Chief 72 Keiser. Crews assumed the Truck Co. duties. E54 secured a water supply for E71 & E63 arrived 3rd due and stretched a line to the 2nd floor. Crews opened up the walls around the fire place and below it in the basement where fire was found and extinguished. Crews operated and overhauled for over an hour before returning. Units operated under Chief 72 M. Keiser. Chief 63 Herre had Operations & Deputy 63 had the interior sectors.

     



 

COVER UP, DINNER & SANTA

Saturday, December 17, 2011  Tonight the Co. covered Sta. 61 Reliance H & L from 6pm until 6am while they held their Annual Christmas Party. Crews for two pieces were staffed throughout the entire cover. The crews washed the rigs, went over the equipment and enjoyed dinner cooked by Capt. B Harris Jr. After dinner the crews took Santa over to the Walters Annual Christmas party and handed out some candy canes to the kids. After returning to the station for the evening the Co. responded along with Co. 40 & 55 to the Thirsty Bulldog Bar on Chichester Ave for the fire alarm. The assignment was recalled by UC Command was the alarm was confirmed tripped.

     



 

ABA HOLIDAY PARTY

Monday, December 12, 2011  The officers and members would like to send out a special Thank You to the Aston Business Association for their continued support of the emergency services in Aston Township. Tonight, during their annual holiday dinner at Hennessey’s Restaurant, the ABA gave very generous donations to Aston-Beechwood, Green Ridge, and Aston PD. Thank You ABA for everything you do for our community. On hand to except on behalf of GRFC was Chief Bob Herre and Deputy Chief Mike Evans.

   


 

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

Sunday, December 11, 2011  This morning the members gathered at the local Applebee's for a Breakfast with Santa fundraiser. The members served the patrons with hot cakes and sausage and their beverages of choice. In all a successful fundraiser was had and the patrons got to meet Santa as he took time to walk around and visit with everyone. We would like to thank all the patrons who came out in support of GRFC and to Applebee's for their continued support of our Community.
