At 430pm companies 63 and 72 were dispatched to the 100 block of Old Pennell Rd. for a vehicle fire reported to be construction equipment. A large plume of thick black smoke could be seen all over Aston while Chief Herre (63-9) made the response from 5 Points. The Chief arrived in moments and found a large fire in the rear of a home consisting of an old abandoned pickup truck, a piece of construction equipment, a pile of tires, leaves and other ground coverings. Tac 72 arrived and traversed the steep driveway up to the fire area and led off with an 1.75 inch handline. Engine 63's crew assisted the Tac crew with extinguishment and overhaul of the area. Rescue 63's crew stretched a 2.50 inch line from Engine 63 to Tac 72 to establish a water supply while Engine 72 stoodby the hydrant and handjacked another 2.50 supply line to E-63. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes but crews remained on scene wetting down the entire area and restoring the apparatus for about 90 mintues. Chief 63 had Old Pennell Command and Aston Car 1A (Joyce) handled the investigation.
